For adventurous riders, finding yourself faced with a ford can be very tempting. You can already see yourself slicing through the water. The aim here is to enjoy yourself without breaking your motorcycle or falling off. Firstly, take a look at the area without getting too wet and pick out a good route, one without any slippery stones. Depending on the current, there are several options you can take.

You can ford the stream in a seated position with your feet towards the ground, but this can be very uncomfortable if there's a strong current. If this is the case, get off your motorcycle and put it on the side of the current, that way you can ensure that it won't overbalance. Keep the engine running. You can also ford the stream trial-style, standing on your bike.

Start off by giving it some throttle. If you come across an obstacle, give it a little more. If worst comes to worst and your bike does fall in the water, it's not the end of the world, but you should cut the engine. Even if it's an easy ford, if you're going at speed it's very important to make sure you don't get water in the engine.
